This course is for parents, teachers and family who are interested in learning more about how the UK parliament operates.

What will you learn?

In this session we will take a virtual tour of the Houses of Parliament, learning how parliament and government works and how laws are made in the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

We will go back in time to look at key events which laid the foundations for British democracy today, including the feudal system, King John and the Magna Carta and Simon de Montfort’s Great Parliament.

We will then discuss the darker past of democracy in Britain, including the English Civil War, the Union of the Crowns and the Gunpowder Plot before talking about parliament and the constitutional monarchy today!
