Sydney
A lot of people mistake Sydney for being Australia’s capital city and we can see why. There is so much to do. Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get the best views in the city, walk around Circular Quay (the main transport hub of Sydney Harbour), go to the Opera House and see a concert, walk around the Rocks District and have a mooch around its weekend markets, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens and wander the Bondi to Coogee Walk to see the best beaches in the city. As an added extra, if you know how to surf, spend a morning at Bondi Beach riding some waves!
Great Barrier Reef
Head to Cairns and take a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel and scuba dive amongst its colourful and magnificent marine life. At 2,300km long, the Great Barrier Reef consists of 900 islands and 2,900 individual reefs. It is regarded as the world’s largest living organism and is often listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World.
Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park
Visit the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park to learn about the Aboriginal People in Australia. Here they teach you some of their traditional ways of life including how to make a fire with sticks, how to throw boomerangs and spears, how to look for food and medicine in the bush and how to play a didgeridoo.
North Queensland
Go on a road trip from Cairns to Cape Tribulation via Port Douglas to see the best of tropical North Queensland on one of the world’s most scenic coastal roads. Along the way you will come across Daintree Rainforest, which is possibly the oldest existing rainforest in the world at 110 million years old. There are beautiful beaches such as Cape Kimberley and Cape Tribulation as well as some fantastic walks such as the Maardja Botanical Walk and the Dubuji Boardwalk.
Uluru
Fly to Alice Springs, a popular gateway to the Outback, and visit the Kangaroo Sanctuary to get up close to the animal most associated with Australia – the kangaroo! From here, drive to Uluru, or Ayers Rock. At 348 metres high, Uluru is a very sacred place to the Aboriginal People. The best time to visit is at sunrise or sunset to see its vibrant ever-changing colours.
Great Ocean Road
Go back to Alice Springs and fly to Melbourne. From here, pick up a car and drive the Great Ocean Road. Famous for being one of the best drives on the planet, the Great Ocean Road begins in the town of Torquay and is 243km long with fascinating rock formations (such as the Twelve Apostles), towns, beach walks, rainforests, waterfalls and wildlife scattered along the route.
Melbourne
Our last stop is Melbourne. This vibrant and bustling city is famous for its street art. Walk to Federation Square for its museums and restaurants, to Queen Victoria Markets for fresh produce and to Laneways for its cafes, boutique shops and Melbourne’s best examples of street art and graffiti.
